Needtobreathe is a South Carolinian rock band characterized by their serious tone and music style encompassing rock subgenres like alternative, southern, Christian, country, and indie rock. Their sound has been compared to the vulnerability and earnestness of John Mayer and Kings of Leon. Their lyrics mostly contain themes about the Christian faith, but their sonic mastery has also gained a following from secular rock enthusiasts. They have toured with big names in the music industry, like Taylor Swift, Tim McGraw, and Train.
Currently, the band consists of lead vocalist, guitarist, and pianist Bear Rinehart; backing vocalist and bassist Seth Bolt; backing vocalist and keyboardist Josh Lovelace; drummer and percussionist Randall Harris; and guitarist Tyler Burkum. They have released eight albums. It might have been slow, but they consistently rose to the top. In 2011, they spawned their first top-ten album with "The Reckoning.” After this was a breezy top-two hit in 2016 as “Hard Love” came out. Four years after, the album “Out of Body” peaked at the top of the Christian Albums chart. In 2021, the band hit a milestone with "Into the Mystery," their fifth topping album in the Christian Albums chart.
On the other hand, Judah and the Lion is a folk and alternative rock duo formed by vocalist and guitarist Judah Akers. He is accompanied by Brian Macdonald, a vocalist and guitarist. With heavy instrumentals and harmonies, which resulted in an impeccable blending of pop and electronics, their music style became distinct. The duo’s rise to the top continued years after as they began exploring more with their sounds. They have released four studio albums, five extended plays, and one live album.
In 2014, their debut album, "Kids These Days," went public. It was a hit, reaching the charts. They finally broke out into the mainstream with the song "Take It All Back" in 2016. This is a track from their second album, "Folk Hop n' Roll." An infusion of hip-hop and folk, this album was deemed innovative by critics. The song debuted at the top of Billboard’s Alternative Songs chart that year. Aiming to achieve more, their style evolved more with the release of their third album, "Pep Talks.” Their most recent album, "Revival,” showcased their more defined sound.
Needtobreathe’s "The Caves World Tour" will commence this year. They will be touring many cities with Judah and the Lion. See them at the Arizona Financial Theatre on Tuesday, October 24. Tickets are still available!
